Historic Shelby Forest General Store looking for buyer

MILLINGTON, Tenn. — The historic Shelby Forest General Store is now for sale, and owners Doug and Kristin Ammons say whoever purchases it will gain a generation of love.

The store has been around for nearly a century, but nowadays it’s more like a time machine.

The store is similar to a museum. It is stacked to the ceiling with artifacts donated, mailed in and dropped off from people all over the world. Some stop by for comfort food and some for connection.

Doug Ammons doesn’t maintain that magic on his own. You can typically find his wife of 40 years, Kristin Ammons, on the grill.

Kristen and Doug’s love and hospitality keep people coming back, but Doug won’t deny that sometimes Justin Timberlake brings them in the door.

Their focus is finding the next generation of owners since the place is now for sale.

“She’s (the store) done so much better than I ever could have thought that she would. This is a comfort zone. This is a sanctuary,” said Ammons.

Ammons is going to make sure the next owners feel the same way.
