MEMPHIS, Tenn. — Two women were arrested after they were accused of vandalizing a man’s house and car last month.
On August 24, Shelby County Sheriff’s Deputies responded to a call in the 4000 block of Appian Cv. When they arrived, they located six 9mm shell casings in the streets and a black BMW in the driveway that had been vandalized.
Detectives spoke with a male victim who told them that he left the residence on the night of August 23 to meet up with his ex-girlfriend and two of her friends, Maurika Crawley and Tameka Merriweather.
The victim said that he was hanging out with his ex when she got upset with him. She allegedly ripped the license plate off the back of his 2016 BMW sedan.
After that occurred, the victim said he left and returned to his residence.
A short time later, Crawley and Merriweather called him saying that they didn’t know where his ex-girlfriend was and that they wanted him to help them look for her.
The victim agreed to meet them at the Marathon gas station on the corner of Raleigh Egypt and Egypt Central. When he arrived, he saw that his ex-girlfriend was in the vehicle with Crawley and Merriweather.
The victim started walking away and the vehicle occupied by the three women chased him out of the parking lot.
The victim said that as he was running down Egypt Church, the vehicle allegedly attempted to hit him but he was able to get out of its path. He then jumped over some fences and hit in a backyard.
A few minutes later, a neighbor who lives across the street from the victim’s residence said he heard multiple gunshots.
He told deputies that when he went outside, he witnessed three women vandalizing the black BMW and residence.
He claimed that he allegedly saw the women jump on the car, knock out its windows and then break two of the windows of the residence.
The women also allegedly ripped the residence’s mailbox and damaged it.
Prior to leaving the scene, the witness heard one of the women say that she “dropped the gun in the yard and needed to find it before they leave.”
The victim said the women were in a maroon Ford Fusion with a headlight out and missing the front bumper.
According to the police report, deputies obtained video footage of the vehicle that showed the incident at the gas station and additional video showed the car driving on Applan Cv. at the time of the incident.
A search of the license plate showed the registration belonged to Tameka Merriweather.
The estimated damage caused by the vandalism is believed to be over $2,500.
Merriweather was charged with aggravated assault, vandalism $2,500-$10,000 and reckless endangerment with a deadly weapon.
Crawley has been charged with the same crimes.
