MEMPHIS, Tenn. — A man is being held in jail on a $150,000 bond after Memphis police say he broke into a woman’s home, hit her with a hammer, and choked her 12-year-old son in Frayser on Sunday.
Marquell Fields, 36, is charged with two counts of domestic assault-bodily harm, child abuse/neglect or endangerment, aggravated burglary, aggravated assault, evading arrest, vandalism $1000-$2500, possession of controlled substance-marijuana, and violating bail condition.
According to reports, officers responded to a domestic violence call at a home in the 600 block of Frayser Drive. The victim stated that she came home to find a man, later identified as Marquell Fields, inside her house.
She says he used a key that he is not supposed to have and that he is also not supposed to be around her based on his bail bond conditions from a previous domestic violence arrest on Friday.
The victim says she got into an argument with Fields for being in her home and that her 12-year-old son attempted to intervene.
At that time, Fields allegedly grabbed the boy by the throat and slammed him into a wall. That is when the woman got in between Fields and her son to break them apart.
Fields started punching the woman in the face and hit her in the hand with a hammer, police say. When the woman ran outside to hide in a Nissan cube that belonged to the suspect’s mother, he allegedly broke the car windows out.
He then proceeded to break the front and back windshields of the woman’s vehicle, picked up a metal chair frame, and hit the woman over the back, according to reports.
Officers say when they made it to the home, Fields jumped over a fence but was taken into custody after a short foot pursuit. Police say Fields had a green leafy substance on him that tested positive for marijuana.
While in custody, Fields admitted to his brother that he was in the woman’s house and that he was aware of his bond conditions.
Marquell Fields is due in court Tuesday morning.
