Woman charged with giving man a gun, sparking shootout

MEMPHIS, Tenn. — A woman is charged with attempted murder after police say she gave a man a gun which sparked a shootout in South Memphis last month.

April Alexander-Bachus, 43, is being held in jail on a $15,000 bond.

On August 21, around 12:50 a.m., Memphis Police say they responded to a shooting at “The Spot” located on 560 Parkway. A male victim was found at the scene suffering from multiple gunshot wounds.

The victim stated it started when he was standing in the parking lot and his male acquaintance, later identified as Stanley Fason, accused him of stealing his gun. That is when they both began to argue.

Police say Bachus was present during the argument and went to get a pistol from the trunk of her car to give to Fason.

As the argument continued, Bachus allegedly told Fason, “Give me that gun back if you ain’t gonna shoot the m*********.” Fason then walked up to the victim, pointed the pistol at him, and started firing shots.

That is when a shootout between the two men began, police say. Both of the men were reportedly struck by gunfire several times.

April Alexander-Bachus is scheduled to appear in court on Thursday morning.

Stanley Fason currently has a warrant out for his arrest. He is charged with criminal attempt second-degree murder and employment of a firearm with intent to commit a felony.
