MEMPHIS, Tenn. — A Bolivar Central High School student was taken into custody for allegedly bringing a gun to school on Wednesday.

Bolivar Police say the gun was discovered after a student was seen hiding it in the ceiling of the school earlier Wednesday.

Police say the student responsible has been taken into custody, and the firearm has been confiscated without incident. Authorities took swift action to ensure the safety of all students and staff.

Police say the school was placed on a light lockdown. While there is no ongoing threat, the lockdown remained in effect as a precautionary measure.

Police say parents are permitted to check their children out of school Wednesday by following the guidelines provided by the Hardeman County Board of Education.
