MEMPHIS, Tenn. — A man is severely injured after police say there was an early Thursday morning shooting in the Soulsville area.

Officers say they responded to the 700 block of Regent Place regarding the shooting just before 3:30 a.m. A male victim was found in the driveway bleeding from a gunshot injury on his backside.

He was then taken to the hospital in critical condition.

“It was all blue all down here. They were right here, right there and that’s all I know,” a neighbor of the injured victim.

The neighbor says he was preparing for the possible flooding from the severe weather when he saw officers responding to a critical shooting.

According to reports, inside the house was the victim’s girlfriend. She told police she heard a single round before seeing her boyfriend was shot.

“I went back in and shut the door because I didn’t know what was going on,” said the neighbor.

“One thing he knew for sure and that is, this was a serious situation just looking at the sheer number of officers that responded,” said the neighbor. “The area has since cleared, but what remains unclear is the why.”
