MEMPHIS, Tenn. — A police chief in Drew, Mississippi was indicted on charges related to a shootout back in 2022 in Southaven, according to the DeSoto County District Attorney Matthew Barton.

Drew Chief of Police Terry Tyler, of Drew, Mississippi, is charged with aggravated assault.

Barton says the shootout began after a confrontation escalated into gunfire, which resulted in “significant public concern.” An investigation by the Mississippi Bureau of Investigation was then conducted.

After a review of the evidence, witness statements, forensic analysis, and police reports, a DeSoto County Grand Jury issued an indictment against Tyler on Thursday.

“This indictment demonstrates our commitment to holding everyone accountable under the law, regardless of their position. No one is above the law, and the integrity of our legal system demands that we address misconduct wherever it is found. We trust the legal process will reveal the truth, and we will continue to pursue justice in an impartial and thorough manner,” Barton said.
