COAHOMA COUNTY, Miss. — One man was wounded in a hail of gunfire outside a Coahoma County convenience store.

It happened Sunday in Friars Point, a community where we’ve reported on more than one violent crime.

Travel warning issued in Coahoma Co., MS after reports of shootings

In a matter of seconds, video shows too many shots to count, fired Sunday night outside the 3-Way Quick Stop in Friars Point.

According to the Coahoma County Sheriff a man was shot in the foot, but no one else was reported as hit.

The store’s front door is still shattered. An employee too scared to show her face talked about the drive-by shooting.

“The guys was standing outside amongst the cars, talking. Two women came in. When they went out a truck came by and shot up the place.”

Investigators recovered a stolen white Dodge Durango but have made no arrests and have no motive.

“What they’re saying is they think it’s like a rivalry between a different town and this town that’s causing all the shootings and things like that, but that’s just hearsay, I don’t know,” the clerk said.

‘Shooting rampage’ in MS kills one person, injures another

This latest shooting is close to where a 10-year-old was shot to death Christmas Eve in Friars Point, and a few miles from where a 41-year-old farm worker was fatally shot in July. The two murders have yet to be solved.

The violence in and around Friars Point forced the sheriff to issue a travel warning for the area, but that does little to comfort an employee, who feels nowhere is safe.

“It’s just bad that you have to fear coming to make money and have to fear your kids going outside. It’;’s horrible,” she said.

Those sentiments were shared by others in Friars Point.

“You wouldn’t think such a small place like this would have this kind of stuff going on. It’s just not right,” said Willie J. Giles Jackson, who manages the Friars Point Museum.

If you have information othat can help investigators call the Coahoma County Sheriff at 662-624-3085.
