MEMPHIS, Tenn. — A Memphis Police officer was injured on Interstate 240 Sunday morning when he was hit head-on by an impaired driver at the scene of an accident, police say.

Officers say they responded to the car crash involving a marked City of Memphis Police Department Vehicle just before 6:50 a.m.

The police car was originally blocking I-240 at Perkins for another traffic accident. A Toyota was driving eastbound on I-240 when police say it struck the front bumper, the side panel, and the front driver’s side door of the marked police car.
