Accused Railgarten shooter gets $100K bond

MEMPHIS, Tenn. — A judge Monday set a $100,000 bond for the suspect accused of shooting several people at Railgarten.

That means Detawn Gunn is headed back to jail for now, weeks after he was released on his own recognizance. He has been free since Aug. 27.

“We’re pleased with today’s outcome,” the Shelby County District Attoprney’s Office said in a statement. “Filing the emergency writ was the right decision to ensure the safety of the public.  Although we would have preferred a higher amount, securing a bond in this case was necessary to uphold public trust and maintain safety in our community.”

Gunn’s attorney said his client would post bond Tuesday morning.

Gunn is accused of firing shots at another man over a parking spot outside the Midtown restaurant Aug. 16. Several people were hit in the shooting, and Gunn faces five counts of attempted murder.

Controversy erupted a few days after the shooting, when a judge allowed Gunn’s release, despite his initial bond being set by a judicial commissioner at $500,000.

Monday, Gunn’s defense attorney argued it was a case of mistaken identity, claiming he was not at Railgarten that night and was instead at another restaurant downtown. Prosecutors argued that phone records placed him in Midtown.
