MEMPHIS, Tenn. — The power is finally back on for thousands of Memphis Light, Gas and Water customers.

Sunday night, many in the Collierville area lost power , which comes after another outage in East Memphis Friday morning.

Along New Frayser and Raleigh Roads on Monday, crews were busy working to restore power in the Frayser area.  But across town in East Memphis, customers on Waring Road such as Enad Abujodeh waited for their power to come back on in their homes.

“I tried to turn the AC on in my truck and tried to charge my phone, you know what I mean,” Abujodeh said. “With this heat it’s hard sometimes to go without the AC and you want to cook something.”

The MLGW Outage Map on Monday showed a few outage areas in green across Memphis and Shelby County.

One of the larger outages was reported Sunday night in the Collierville area. At one point, more than 8,000 MLGW customers were affected here alone.

The utility says a “failure” at a substation that serves the Collierville area is to blame for the widespread outage.

Sunday’s outage comes only days after another outage in East Memphis. More than 10,000 customers were briefly without power Friday morning. MLGW says a squirrel took out a circuit breaker at a substation causing outages for those along the Poplar corridor area.

All and all, a busy weekend and Monday for MLGW crews as some customers continue to wait to get the lights back on in their homes.

It's nothing new they will be downsized to illegal workers very soon. Just like they did customer service.
