MEMPHIS, Tenn — A driver has been charged with child abuse and endangerment after police say his young son was found sleeping in the back seat of his car near two loaded guns.

Deangelo Johnson, 20, was also charged with theft of property and driving without a license.

Police said Friday, Johnson was pulled over on Calvert because his car did not have a license plate.

Officers said that was when they discovered Johnson did not have a driver’s license and his 2-year-old son was in reach of two handguns.

Police said the handguns, both equipped with illegal Glock conversion devices, were lying on the rear floorboard right below the toddler. A Glock switch turns a semiautomatic weapon into a machine gun.

Investigators said one of the guns found in the vehicle was stolen during a home invasion in January of last year.

Johnson was released from the Shelby County Jail on a $40,000 bond.
