MEMPHIS – We are less than a week away from the start of Grizzlies training camp.

Moving closer to the start of a new NBA season.

But before Grizzlies star Jaren Jackson Junior gets back to the business of basketball, he spent time with the kids at Georgian Hills middle school Wednesday where Jackson delivered much needed backpacks full of school supplies.

Jackson then took pictures, signed autographs and offered words of encouragement and guidance.

Jackson has always been passionate about giving back, especially to the youth of Memphis.

The Grizzlies seventh year forward is also very excited to tip off a new season, especially after what happened last year with so many players sidelined by injury.

“Yeah. I’m thrilled. I’m very excited. We can’t wait to get back in. I don’t think there’s really anything else to be said about it,” Jackson said. “Been a long summer. Making something out of what happened. Making something out of everything. A lot of trials and tribulations. You got to make it worth it.”

The best moment of Jackson’s visit came when one of the students said that he could actually guard Grizzlies star guard Ja Morant. Something Jackson wanted to share with his all-star teammate so he facetimed Morant. When the kids saw Morant’s face… well, pandemonium ensued.

“That stuff is priceless for them.  I don’t think I would have been able to comprehend it if people around in the city I was in, the NBA team, showed up and was doing anything, even showed up at all. I bet it’s a whirlwind for him.”
