TUNICA, Miss. — A suspect was killed and a resident was left injured after an attempted overnight home invasion at an apartment complex in Tunica, Mississippi.

Around 1:15 a.m. the Tunica County Sheriff’s Office say they responded to a call at the CottonLand Village Apartments on 1655 Beatline Road regarding a home invasion with shots fired. Two people were reported shot.

Deputies say when they arrived at the scene, they found the resident suffering from a gunshot wound. After being treated on the scene, he was taken to a Memphis hospital.

A second person was found and also treated at the scene for his gunshot injury, but later died. Deputies say he was the suspect who tried to break into the house.

The suspect was later identified by a Mississippi coroner as Nadarius Joiner, 30, of Tunica, Mississippi.

Deputies say homeowners have a constitutional right to protect their homes once a
    a person gains entrance.

No arrests have been made, but this is still an ongoing investigation.
