MEMPHIS, Tenn. — You may have heard of the traveling pants, but what about a traveling pot?
Two Memphis best friends went antique shopping and discovered a treasure from 30 years ago and from nearly 300 miles away.

When you walk into Southern Vintage Co., in Bartlett, your eyes go everywhere. But when Cathy Meredith walked in, her eyes went straight to a painted pot.

“I walked to this booth and I looked at this pot and it’s like I said, ‘Look, Donna, this looks like your stuff,'” Meredith remembered. “And she said, ‘Yeah, it does.'”

Primary colors, schoolhouse, children, it checked off all the boxes.

“We found her initials that she had painted this pot back in 1992,” she said.

But her friend Dona Packer was living hundreds of miles away in West Monroe, Louisiana in 1992. Then the questions started — How did the traveling pot land in Bartlett?

Owner Mindy Woodall says she has no idea.

“It is just fate. It’s crazy how that worked,” she said.

Mindy’s store is 12,000 square feet with more than 90 vendors, so spotting the pot is even surprising.

Donna and Cathy have been friends for decades, both former teachers bonded by their love of children and art.

Their last antique shopping trip together before Dona moved out of Memphis is now one to remember.
