MEMPHIS, Tenn. — A crook in construction gear swiped several Stanley quenchers from a sporting goods store in Hickory Hill, police say.

Memphis Police say a man walked out of Dick’s Sporting Goods on Polo Grounds Boulevard last Thursday with an armful of about seven of the trendy tumblers he hadn’t paid for.

Police say the pink, blue and green Stanley cups were worth an estimated $300.

Stanley cups: What are they, and why are they so popular?

The suspect is easy to spot in surveillance video images.

He’s seen wearing a bright yellow hard hat and reflective vest reading “Three Arrows Contracting,” a company that has a local office in Memphis, as he jumps into a waiting Mercury sedan with a red rear bumper and Tennessee license plate 037-BKYY.

Stores need to either go back to the revolving turnstiles at each exit or have a bar code scanned on the receipt at checkout and a bar code scanned at the door. If the person tries to leave without scanning the bar code, a siren would go off, alerting EVERYBODY in the store that a shoplifter was trying to get out. I'm sure there would be shoppers that be more than happy to step up and stop the person from getting out. There would be strength in numbers.
