Project Pat says he’s no pastor, but he is preaching

MEMPHIS, Tenn. — Legendary Memphis rapper Project Pat is setting the record straight about his viral appearance at an Arkansas church in an exclusive interview with WREG.

A blogger claimed online that Project Pat was officially a pastor, but Pat says that’s not entirely true.

“I can’t lie, brother that wasn’t real news. That was just the Internet,” he said. “I didn’t announce that. I’ll take it if that’s what they want to give me. It’s not a bad title.”

Project Pat, known for his raw lyrics, recently sparked buzz after speaking at Keiser Chapel Church in Keiser, Arkansas. In our exclusive interview, Pat clarifies he’s not a pastor but welcomes the title of minister or preacher.

“If they want to say I’m preaching, that’s fine. I’m talking about God, so I am preaching. I’m never gonna say I’m not preaching. I am preaching.”

He says he’s been spreading God’s word through his ‘Go Foundation’ for years, visiting prisons and jails nationwide.

“We’ve been doing this for years we started doing it in 2021. The best part about it is everybody reached out to us. We never reached out. We’re going to Rikers Island in October San Quinton in December. We’ve already been to California prison, prisons in Indianapolis, Alabama, Mississippi.”

Pat emphasized his faith journey, drawing parallels between his life and Biblical passages. He focused on the key message of avoiding pridefulness.

“You know, God loves us so much that even in the process of doing crimes doing drugs, he still provides oxygen for us to breathe wow in the Bible says the sun shines on the just and the unjust in the end think about it. No one‘s gonna have an excuse. You can never say God doesn’t love you. You can never say it.”

Project Pat assures fans he’s still a rapper and has explored gospel inspired music.

“My thing is I do music. I have songs with Christian artists already. If somebody reaches out of course we can do something,” he said. “One thing we’re going to do is talk about the goodness and the love of God that’s first and foremost.”

Pat says his prison ministry, Breakin’ Baggs, visits inmates at 201 Poplar every Thursday.
