MEMPHIS, Tenn. — Memphis Police have launched an investigation after a man was found beaten and hidden under trash on Thursday.

At 09:14 a.m., officers responded to an aggravated assault across from 741 Neptune Street.

The complainant told officers that at 9 a.m. while he was working his sanitation route, he heard a faint noise coming from a pile of trash across from 741 Neptune Street.

The complainant said that he, his co-worker and others discovered an older male victim beaten very badly and unable to speak.

When officers arrived at the scene, they saw the victim and noticed that his face and the back of his head were bleeding profusely. His face was also swollen.

The victim was conscious but unable to tell officers anything.

According to the police report, the victim appeared to be beaten up and then placed underneath trash to hide him.

The victim was taken to Regional One in critical condition.

Officers spoke to a resident living on Neptune Street.

He told them that his residence is a rooming house that he shares with another tenant. Officers ran the other tenant’s license and his picture matched the victim that was discovered across the street.

The resident said that he was sleeping at the time of the incident and didn’t hear any disturbances. He couldn’t tell officers if the victim had any enemies who would want to hurt him.

Officers spoke with another person who lives on Neptune Street who told them that there’s a homeless man that lives across the street from her and is usually outside.

She said she didn’t hear any disturbances that morning.

Surveillance cameras on the street were pointed near the location of the incident.

Officers reviewed the footage and it showed the victim walking back and forth from Neptune, throwing away trash. The footage also showed another man dressed in black throwing away trash.

However, the footage did not show the victim getting attacked.

Police say that suspect information is still unknown at this time.
