On Sunday around 10:20 a.m., officers say they responded to the 5100 block of Capen Avenue regarding a shooting. A man, later identified as Dominic Watkins, told police that he had shot the victim several times.
Watkins was then detained at that time. Four additional witnesses were also detained.
Police say the victim did not survive his injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene. He has been identified as 26-year-old Darrian Scott.
Fifteen spent .40 caliber shell casings and a Glock 23 Gen 4 handgun with an extended magazine were found on the scene, police say. Officers got video surveillance in the area, which provided video and audio of the incident.
After further investigation, the witnesses told police that it started when they were riding in the car with the victim who was driving. They stated that when they arrived at the home, the victim and Watkins got into an argument in the driveway.
The witnesses say they attempted to separate the victim and Watkins, but the argument continued. That is when the victim allegedly threw a Sonic drink cup at Watkins.
At that time, police say Watkins began to shoot at the victim. As the victim crouched behind the car, Watkins allegedly walked to the back of the car and fired several more shots at the victim before walking away.
Police say the witnesses were able to positively identify Watkins from a six-person photo lineup as the person they say shot the victim.
Dominic Watkins is set to face a judge on Tuesday morning.
