GERMANTOWN, Tenn. — An off-duty Germantown Police Officer was arrested and charged with Driving Under the Influence after he allegedly crashed his car in Germantown while intoxicated on Tuesday.

Collierville Police later confirmed that charges are pending against the same officer for two separate crashes there, one around Houston Levee and Wolf River Boulevard and another at Houston Levee near Poplar.

According to reports, just before 5 p.m., a Germantown Police Officer watched a car driving over the speed limit down Poplar Avenue crash into another vehicle in the area.

The driver of the car was identified as Lowell Young, an off-duty Germantown Police Officer, who has now been charged with DUI, Refusal to Submit to BAC, Reckless Driving, Possession of a Weapon While Intoxicated, Open Container, Expired License Plate, Public Intoxication, and Following too Closely.

Young has been an employee of the Germantown Police Department for 18 years and has been suspended without pay until an investigation into the matter is completed, police say.

He has since been released from jail on a $5,000 bond.

The police department said no one was injured in the crash, and they are aware of crashes under investigation in Collierville that are reportedly related to the DUI incident involving Young.
