Tanker truck carrying over 8K gallons of gasoline bursts into flames

MEMPHIS, Tenn. — A major fire shut down part of Interstate 55 next to the Valero refinery just before 10 Thursday night.

The Memphis Fire Department said on Friday morning that an 18-wheeler carrying 8,464 gallons of gasoline was involved in a crash that caused it to overturn and catch fire.

Upon arrival, firefighters began rescue operations immediately. No one was injured in the incident.

One man was arrested after police say he drove through a roadblock on I-55 as firefighters worked the fire.

Drivers in the area of I-55 and Mallory should expect delays until further notice while officials continue clearing the scene.
