Roman Reigns has issued a statement after his uncle, Afa Anoa’i , also known as Afa The Wild Samoan, passed away on Friday at the age of 81.

In a social media post on Twitter, Reigns said that his family has suffered “another great loss”. He said his family is taking comfort in the fact that his uncle is now at peace, and is now reunited with his father, Pola’ivao Leati Sika Anoa’i, who passed away earlier this year and was one half of the Wild Samoans tag team.

    Roman Reigns’ Statement

“Our family has suffered another great loss with the passing of my uncle and WWE Hall of Famer, Gataivasā Afa Amituana’i Anoa’i,” said Reigns in his statement. “We thank everyone for their support and are comforted by the fact that he now rests in peace. Afa and my father, Pola’ivao Leati Sika Anoa’I were loving brothers, the greatest tag team of their generation, and now they’re reunited together in heaven. Rest in Power Wild Samoans.”

Afa, a member of the Anoa’i family, had a legendary career in the wrestling world. He had a memorable run alongside his brother Sika, as they competed as The Wild Samoans. The duo won titles in various promotions. They worked for the WWF for several years, and they held the WWF Tag Team Championship three times. Afa returned to WWF for a few stints amid some time in Mid-South Wrestling and Jim Crockett Promotions. In his later run, he managed The Headshrinkers. Afa retired from the ring in 1994. Alongside Sika, he went on to become a trainer at the Wild Samoan Training Facility.

On behalf of WrestleZone, we send our best regards to Afa Anoa’i’s family, friends, and fans.
