WWE SmackDown Preview (8/23/24)

It’s almost time for WWE SmackDown!

WWE returns to the Capital One Arena in Washington for this week’s SmackDown. Cody Rhodes, Nia Jax, LA Knight, The Bloodline, Bayley, and Tiffany Stratton are all advertised for the show.

Here’s what’s on tap for the August 23 episode of Friday Night SmackDown.

Six-woman tag team match on WWE SmackDown

Naomi helped Jade Cargill and Bianca Belair fend off the Unholy Union and Blair Davenport previously on SmackDown. However, the former SmackDown Women’s Champion was unable to beat Davenport in singles action the following week.

Tonight, Naomi joins forces with Bianca and Jade to take on the trio of Alba Fyre, Isla Dawn and Blair Davenport. The match comes days after Alba and Isla’s successful defense of the WWE Women’s Championship on RAW.

LA Knight (c) vs. Santos Escobar – WWE United States Championship

LA Knight defeated Logan Paul for the United States Championship at WWE SummerSlam 2024 . He came across his first challenger for the title, Santos Escobar, on WWE SmackDown. Tonight, the two bitter foes go head-to-head to decide the fate of the United States Championship.

Grayson Waller Effect with Cody Rhodes on WWE SmackDown

Grayson Waller and Austin Theory reignited their feud with Kevin Owens previously on SmackDown. The Prizefighter was jumped by A-Town Down Under following his win over Waller on the blue brand.

The attack was interrupted by Cody Rhodes who arrived with two chairs to even the odds. Ahead of this week’s SmackDown, Cody and Waller went back and forth on social media to set up a segment for tonight’s show.

The Bloodline (c) vs. The Street Profits – WWE Tag Team Championship

The Bloodline and The Street Profits will run it back, this time with the tag team titles on the line.

Jacob Fatu and Tama Tonga won a gauntlet match that also featured Montez Ford and Angelo Dawkins to earn a shot at the tag team titles previously on WWE SmackDown. The Bloodline would go on to beat DIY for the titles on the night before SummerSlam.

As fate would’ve had it, Ford and Dawkins won a number one contender’s match against former champions DIY to earn a shot at tag team title. Tonight, the two teams square off to decide the fate of the WWE Tag Team Championship.
