Mark Henry never had plans to wrestle in AEW.

The former World Heavyweight Champion was announced as the latest signing to AEW at Double or Nothing 2021 . He originally joined as a backstage coach, as well as an on-screen analyst for AEW Rampage.

He also helped scout talent for the promotion, helping to bring Jade Cargill to AEW. However, unlike fellow WWE veteran signings like Christian Cage and Paul Wight , Mark Henry never found himself wrestling in AEW.

Mark Henry recently appeared on Huge Pop with Donnie DaSilva and Jimmy Korderas (H/T to Post Wrestling for the transcription). The WWE Hall of Famer was asked if there were plans for him to wrestle in AEW, which he categorically denied.

“No (there were not talks of me competing for AEW). I’m an old, beat-up man. I’m not trying to have nobody whoop my ass.” Mark Henry said.

Mark Henry Would Have Had A Match of the Year With MJF

However, Mark Henry did discuss the idea that he could have wrestled MJF , and had “the best match anybody saw this year”.

He claimed he would make the former AEW Champion “look like a million bucks”, while criticising the current wrestler’s understanding of in-ring psychology.

“You watch a movie like Mission Impossible. Oh my God, there’s no way they get out of this. I get it. That’s not happening in wrestling no more. Well, let me just go against a guy my own size and we can do a bunch of things to each other, none of it works and then all of a sudden, ooouuu, I slip and fall and land on top of him and I win. It’s not a compelling story. If I were to match with MJF, it would be the best match that anybody saw this year.”

“Because I would make sure that he looked like a million bucks, because my goal is to make him look like a million bucks, and then I’m gonna ask him in return, hey, I know how to make me look this way. But we gotta do this and we gotta do this, and it’s not your place to pick me up or push me and run me. Now, you can dropkick me in the back and run me into the post. But if I’m 400 pounds, what is (that) gonna look like? You grabbing me and running me into the post? The psychology and the understanding of what to do is nonexistent anymore.”
