Nick Wayne On His Rivalry With Swerve Strickland: We’re Destined To Do This Forever

Nick Wayne sees Swerve Strickland being a key figure in his pro wrestling career.

WrestleZone Managing Editor Bill Pritchard spoke with Wayne about his rivalry with Swerve Strickland. The pair have been involved with each other at key moments in their respective careers. Wayne ended Swerve’s DEFY Championship reign on the indies, and Swerve viciously attacked Wayne during the former’s feud with Darby Allin.

Wayne’s AEW in-ring debut came against Swerve. Some fans believe they will share a link throughout their careers. Wayne agreed, noting how the anticipation grows every time they step into the ring with each other. His response indirectly referenced a key line from The Joker in The Dark Knight , with Wayne claiming he and Swerve are “destined” to feud in the long run.

“Yeah. I one-thousand percent agree. Me and Swerve are destined to do this forever,” Wayne stated. “And every time since the first time we touched in a ring, every time we’ve gone back, it’s felt like the anticipation has risen. Going from Defy World Title Matches, to my first match in AEW and then now, [he became] World Heavyweight Champion. It’s like every time we step in the ring again, the anticipation is higher.

“The stakes are higher,” he added. “But I truly believe me and Swerve, two Washington, Pacific-Northwest guys, I truly believe we are destined to do it forever.”
