Former AEW Women’s World Champion “Timeless” Toni Storm shocked the STARDOM crowd by calling out Mayu Iwatani for her IWGP Women’s Title.

Mayu Iwatani teamed up with Hanan in a successful tag effort against NEO GENESIS’ AZM and Miyu Amasaki at STARDOM’s recent Namba Grand Fight show. After the match, the focus shifted to the video screen above the stage revealing AEW’s very own Toni Storm.

Toni Storm and Mayu Iwatani’s history

She brought up her controversial win of the World of Stardom Championship from Mayu Iwatani back in 2017. At the time, the referee awarded Toni Storm the belt after Mayu suffered an arm injury two minutes into the match. According to Toni, this led to some claiming that her victory was a mistake. Despite this, Toni went on to defend the red belt a total of three times against the likes of Mercedes Martinez and Bea Priestley (now Blair Davenport in WWE) before eventually losing the title to Kagetsu.

Seven years later in 2024, Toni officially challenges Mayu for the IWGP Women’s Championship to prove her ability to defeat the “Icon of Stardom” in singles competition.

The rematch officially takes place at STARDOM’s Nagoya Golden Fight show on October 5. This will also mark Toni Storm’s first official match in STARDOM since 2019. Since then, she has wrestled for various promotions and countries before becoming a three-time AEW Women’s World Champion. Mayu, on the other hand, continued to lead STARDOM as the company’s ace by ultimately becoming a grand slam champion.

Unfortunately, this also sets AZM’s challenge for the IWGP Women’s Title aside in the meantime. The “High Speed Bomb Girl” has been quite vocal about facing Mayu for the belt following her singles victory over the champion in this year’s 5 Star Grand Prix .

WrestleZone will provide further updates on the upcoming championship match as it becomes publicly available.
