Ricky Details How Appearance On WWE SmackDown Happened

Ricky made the most of his opportunity on WWE SmackDown .

Ricky, also known as Ricky Gibson on the independent scene, had a moment in the spotlight on the September 13 episode of WWE SmackDown. He was initially revealed as Kevin Owens’ partner before Randy Orton came out to team up with him. Owens then hit Ricky with a Stunner.

Speaking on Busted Open Radio , Ricky detailed how his appearance on SmackDown happened. (H/t Jeremy Lambert of Fightful for the transcription)

“Gabe Sapolsky reached out a couple weeks ago and said SmackDown and Raw were going to be in Seattle and Portland, it would be great if you could make it to Seattle for extra work,” he said. “I just showed up. Like everyone does, you put on a suit, you go to catering, and you hope for the best. The difference was, I was walking around the hallways, and there is Kevin Owens walking around. He’s walking around like he has no clue what he’s doing. I go, ‘Hey, what can do for you? Can I help you?’ It was perfect. I’m a tag team guy. When he was like, ‘I need a tag team partner.’ It was easy for me to step up and be like, ‘I’m your guy.’

“I saw him ask Booker (Booker T) and RVD (Rob Van Dam). I saw him ask a ton of different guys. Everyone is saying no. I’m your guy. Who else?”

Gibson has held tag team titles for several promotions on the independent scene, so he was a fitting choice for Owens’ partner.
