AEW Collision Grand Slam Results: Review, Grades, Card For September 28

Our AEW Collision Grand Slam results for tonight include some big matches, including Kazuchika Okada and Sammy Guevara in an AEW Continental Championship Eliminator Match, an AEW World Trios Championship Match, Jeff Jarrett going at it with Hangman Page in a Lumberjack Strap Match, and much more.

Jamie Hayter Gets Through Saraya’s Rules

Saraya vs. Jamie Hayter

In the opening match of the night, Saraya tried to take Hayter to task in a match with specific rules. Those rules? The match wouldn’t begin until Saraya got to slap Hayter in the face. Hayter allowed it to happen, and things were underway. From the start, it looked like Hayter was all but done for, as Harley Cameron continually got involved with things and essentially turned the bout into a 2-on-1 situation.

The match continued mostly like this for half of it, with Saraya hitting Hayter with a VCR, a keyboard, a baking sheet, and much more. Saraya even got out some toy cars and put them on a table to try and get her. However, Hayter was able to gather up some momentum and get back in the match by slamming her through a table set up in the corner of the ring.

Hayter then threw Saraya into another corner that had a chair set up in it, and then hit a big tombstone piledriver. After another big slam, Hayter had done enough to walk out with the win.

Winner – Jamie Hayter

Grade: B+

This one was a ton of fun, and both Saraya and Hayter did a great job showing off just how much they didn’t like one another in the ring. The use of non-typical weapons in the ring was great, with the VCR and baking sheet spots the highlights here.

Tornado Trios Match Spins Into Chaos

Tornado Trios Match: The Conglomeration (Mark Briscoe, Kyle O’Reilly, & Orange Cassidy) vs. The Learning Tree (Chris Jericho, Big Bill, & Bryan Keith)

This one started out with absolute chaos, as Chris Jericho tried to get in some underhanded hits with a roll of coins in his hand. Orange Cassidy was quick to block it by using his backpack, though, and then absolutely laid out Jericho with it, before revealing that he had placed a brick inside of it. This led to even more chaos, as Cassidy and Kyle O’Reilly began doubling up on Big Bill, which Mark Briscoe also got involved in to make it a 3-on-1.

Despite the odds, Big Bill looked to not affected whatsoever, and stayed on his feet long enough for Jericho to get back into it and throw Briscoe into a steel chair that he had set up. Jericho then hit a Codebreaker onto Briscoe right onto the steel chair, but O’Reilly swooped in to make the save on the pin. Big Bill, meanwhile, took out both Cassidy and O’Reilly, but Cassidy got back up quickly and hit an Orange Punch on the behemoth to finally cause some damage.

Inside the ring, Briscoe used one of the steel chairs as a diving board, launching himself off of it and over the ropes to take Jericho out on the outside of the ring. The two continued to go back-and-forth and Briscoe hit Jericho with the Jay Driller but decided to keep going. He set up Jericho on a table, but Big Bill was there for the save, and put Briscoe through it with a vicious chokeslam. Jericho then pinned Briscoe for the win.

Winner – The Learning Tree

Grade: B

Another fun one to start the night, Cassidy and Jericho just know how to put on a show when they’re both on. Briscoe might have been the MVP of the match, though, as he was absolutely everywhere. He and Jericho’s back and forth was incredible, and watching Briscoe take some of the biggest bumps and keep getting up for more was great.

Brody King and Action Andretti Go At It

Brody King vs. Action Andretti

The next match in the night saw Brody King and Action Andretti go at it in the ring. This one didn’t last as long as the previous two matches, however, as King made relatively short work of things. In the end, he was able to hit Andretti out of mid-air with a big punch, and then hit a cannonball in the corner to wrap things up almost immediately.

Winner – Brody King

After the match, Lance Archer and The Righteous came in to attack Top Flight and Lio Rush. Andretti helped out by diving over and into the fray, and All Elite Wrestling security and officials had to come and wrap things up.

Grade: C

This one was mostly over with immediately, so not a ton to take away from here. The post-match antics with Lio Rush and the rest of Top Flight were probably the most memorable, and it’ll be interesting to see where things go from here with the group, especially given their latest back-and-forths.

Jack Perry Defends His TNT Championship

AEW TNT Championship: Jack Perry (c) vs. Minoru Suzuki

Perry and Suzuki kicked things off next as Perry would try and defend his AEW TNT Championship. The match with Suzuki started off poorly for him, as Suzuki was literally laughing off various chops Perry threw at him before dropping him with a big punch. Suzuki then got to the ground and started locking in some submissions, but Perry was able to get up and reset things.

Later in the match, Suzuki found a chair and then hit Perry on the back with it, but wasn’t disqualified. Instead, the ref took the chair away, allowing Perry to get a second to hit a big running knee in the ensuing chaos. Outside of the ring, Perry hit a DDT on Minoru, then threw him into the steel steps and kicked his head into them for even more aggression. Suzuki was clearly out of it by then, and Perry was able to get back into the ring and watch as the referee counted out Minoru.

Winner – Jack Perry

After the match, Perry wasn’t done with Suzuki, and kept his assault up. Eventually, Katsuyori Shibata had to run in and chase away Perry, leading to both Suzuki and Shibata shaking hands and hugging.

Grade: B-

Suzuki and Perry put on a really fun match here. Both stars were going right at it from the start, and Suzuki showed off some awesome technical prowess, especially with that triangle submission/armbar while hanging off the rope. Perry getting to showcase some of his anger was a nice touch as well, and the match ending with him just going absolutely ballistic set the stage for some fun stuff.

AEW World Trios Championships On The Line

AEW World Trios Championship: Pac and Blackpool Combat Club (Claudio Castagnoli and Wheeler Yuta) (c) vs. Komander and Private Party (Isiah Kassidy and Marq Quen) (with Alex Abrahantes)

The AEW World Trios Championships have been a hot topic in All Elite Wrestling over the past few months, and tonight PAC, Wheeler Yuta, and Claudio Castagnoli got together again to defend them. After weeks of bickering and uncertainty around Yuta’s participation in the match, he was on hand, but not really present; early in the match, Yuta flat out declined to be tagged into the bout when Claudio tried to, resulting in Castagnoli slapping his chest and forcing him in.

Throughout the match, Yuta did not look like he wanted to take any part in the activities. After Castagnoli began swinging around Isiah Kassidy, Yuta refused to hit him with a dropkick, resulting in Pac throwing his teammate into the corner in frustration. Yuta then watched as Komander dove outside of the ring and onto Claudio. After more moments like this, Yuta found himself in a disinterested back-and-forth with Kassidy, who slapped the superstar and seemed to wake him up.

This seemed to wake up the superstar, who quickly bit Kassidy, then began raining elbows down onto him before locking in the Cattle Mutilation for the submission victory. Claudio tried to raise his partner’s hand, but Yuta quickly took off once again.

Winner – Pac, Wheeler Yuta & Claudio Castagnoli

Grade: B+

The group dynamic between Yuta and the rest of BCC continues to be one of the more entertaining aspects of AEW’s trios/tag team division. Yuta completely not participating in the match for most of it was a fun bit, and him finally snapping into action was nice to see. Things clearly aren’t good with the group though, so it’ll be very interesting to see how things get solved down the line.

Lucha Libre Three-Way Match is All About Athleticism

Hologram vs. The Beast Mortos vs. Dralístico

The three lucha libre stars went all out for this match, including a sequence that featured all three just successively hitting big move after big move. In the end, Dralistico and Mortos decided to team up with one another, but Mortos messed up by hitting Dralistico with a clothesline late in the action. This let Hologram get the upper hand, and he promptly dumped The Beast outside of the ring and then pinned Dralistico for the win.

Winner – Hologram

After the match, a clearly angered Dralistico began arguing with Mortos, and RUSH had to come down and get the two to calm down and begin working together again. They promptly did so by all ambushing Hologram.

Grade: B+

This one ended pretty quick and didn’t feature a ton of action, but man was it an absolute blast. The sequence above where all three superstars began delivering hurricanranas and other moves to each other was awesome to watch and really got the crowd going.

It’s Time For Another MxM Fashion Show

It was time for MxM Collection to once again show off their fits and put on a show here, this time with the grand reveal of Max Caster’s jacket makeover. In the ring, the jacket — including the model wearing it — was hidden underneath a big black sheet. The group then said that it was time for a Grand Slam Fashion Walk, and a group of models came out wearing pictures of Mansoor and Mason over their own faces. It was then time for the jacket reveal, and the sheet was removed to unveil a model named Hans wearing the jacket.

Hans also had a Mason mask on, and after asking him to touch tips, “Hans” removed his mask to reveal he was none other than Daddy Ass. He tried to attack MxM, but the other models quickly ran to the aid of the group and held them down. Out came The Acclaimed and chaos broke out, as MxM ran off. Caster ended up putting on his new jacket, and the group all did a three-way scissoring.

Grade: B

Not too much to hate here, as this was just a ton of fun in the ring. MxM Collection continue to be a fun pairing, and their “feud” with The Acclaimed has resulted in a lot of hilarious moments in the ring.

Lumberjack Strap Match Includes A Lot Of Chaos

Lumberjack Strap Match: “Hangman” Adam Page vs. Jeff Jarrett

Page and Jarrett were surrounded by a bunch of AEW’s biggest and baddest, including Bang Bang Gang, Satnam Singh, Jay Lethal, the Dark Order, and more. Both Jarrett and Page kept trying to get the other thrown outside of the ring, but they kept avoiding it until Jarrett was thrown out first. Thankfully for Jarrett, he fell right by Jay and Singh, and got back in with no problems. Page quickly threw Jarrett back outside onto the other area of the ring, where The Gunns and other superstars went to town on him with the straps.

Later on in the match, Juice Robinson got involved in a more direct way, hitting Page with a strap as he was going for the Buckshot Lariat after he had been outside. Jarrett climbs to the top ropes and dives outside of the ring, taking out a ton of the Lumberjacks outside. Hangman grabbed a strap in the chaos and used it to attack Jarret as he went for The Stroke, and Karen Jarrett then got involved, throwing herself onto Jeff’s body and begging Page to stop.

Page looked unsure for a moment before turning and taking out some of his aggression on Jay Lethal. The ref is trying to get Karen out of the ring, which allows Jarrett to get to work whipping Page, then toss him outside of the ring for everyone to join in. Jarrett looked ready to win, but Page hit him with a low blow as they got back in the ring, then hit the Dead Eye for the pin and win.

Winner – Hangman Page

Afterward, Page had had enough and began attacking the Lumberjacks, grabbing Juice Robinson and hanging him over the ropes with the straps. The Gunns eventually got involved and stopped Robinson from getting any more damage, and chased Page off.

Grade: A

Page and Jarrett put on an absolutely great show here, and Page continues to be one of the best in the business no matter what kind of opportunity he’s given. The Lumberjack aspect of the match was also a ton of fun, with everyone getting to do a lot.

AEW Continental Championship Eliminator Match

AEW Continental Championship Eliminator Match: Sammy Guevara vs. Kazuchika Okada

The final match of the night saw Kazuchika Okada and Sammy Guevara going at it in an AEW Continental Championship eliminator match. Okada was looking to make sure Guevara wouldn’t walk away with a title shot, and it didn’t look good right at the start. Guevara was absolutely on a tear to start, landing some big hits on Okada and then throwing him outside of the ring and hitting a big cutter on him off the steel steps.

Guevara messes up a chance to get a win by missing a moonsault, allowing Okada to get back into the match. Okada hits a big DDT on Guevara outside of the ring, then starts going on the offensive on his own. After a brief commercial break, Guevara flipped the momentum again and took out Okada with a big dive onto the outside of the ring, and it looks like Guevara may have hurt himself in the process.

Guevara began moving a bit more gingerly after the big splash, and Okada took advantage immediately. He hit a big dropkick onto Guevara’s back, then hits an elbow drop from the top rope. He goes for the Rainmaker after flipping off the camera, but Guevara countered it and landed a Spanish Fly, then hit the GTH. Okada bounces up almost immediately, though, and then caught Guevara in a springboard before hitting the Rainmaker and ending the night with a win.

Winner – Kazuchika Okada

Grade: A

Guevara and Okada put on a stellar show here, and went all out from the very start. Okada specifically continues to be one of the best stars in the company, and his work with any and everyone is must-watch status now. It was a bit shocking to see Guevara not able to secure a title match, but he continued to show off just how impressive he is when given the chance to show up.

AEW Collision Grand Slam Review

Grade: B+

All in all, this was a pretty great episode of AEW Collision. For a show that generally doesn’t feature try to make any big splashes, this was a ton of star power on hand for a Saturday night, and set the stage for a ton of great stuff going forward.
