PRINCE GEORGE COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) — Prince George County Schools is now seeking the community’s input in its search for a new superintendent.

This comes after the county’s current superintendent announced her retirement last month.

For the first time, the Prince George County School Board is using an online survey as a tool to help select a new superintendent.

The board will also have printed surveys at the schools and the Prince George County School Board Office. However, the survey is only for Prince George County residents.

The survey has 11 questions which include:

    • What qualifications do you think are necessary for a superintendent?
    • Rank your top three priorities for a superintendent in regards to leadership and management skills

This search comes as current superintendent Dr. Lisa Pennycuff announced her retirement on April 19 in order to care for her mother.

Pennycuff served Prince George County Public Schools for 9 years in different roles and will step away from the job on July 31.

In the meantime, the board has selected Dr. Joseph O. Cox Jr. to serve as acting superintendent. He has recently served as the superintendent for Colonial Heights Public Schools for 18 years — the longest in the district’s history.

Prince George County School Board Chair Jill Andrews said in a statement:

“The appointment of a new superintendent is one of the most important responsibilities entrusted to a school board, and it is our priority to ensure that the public has an active role in this selection process.”

The School Board will discuss the search at a public hearing on June 3 at 6 p.m. at the Prince George County Administration Building in the third-floor boardroom at 6602 Courts Drive.
