PRINCE EDWARD COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) — A bag with three kittens inside of it was found in a Prince Edward County convenience site’s trash compactor Thursday morning.

The bag was found by an attendant at the Darlington Heights convenience site on the morning of Thursday, May 23, when they heard meowing from inside a trash compactor.

According to Prince Edward County Animal Care and Control, two of the three kittens inside had already died. Only one of them, a female kitten, was still alive inside of the bright orange bag.

“If it weren’t for the attendant at the site who heard meowing coming from the compactor, then all would have perished,” officials said in a Facebook post about the incident.

The kitten has reportedly received a warm bath and veterinary attention.

“We do know they were thrown in there this morning,” officials said, but little else is known about the circumstances of this incident at this time.

Officials are asking anyone with information on who brought the kittens to the convenience site to contact Prince Edward County Animal Care and Control at 434-233-7310.
