RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) — A Richmond man was sentenced to three years in federal prison today after being found in possession of a firearm while having had a previous firearm conviction.

According to the U.S. Department of Justice, Henrico County Division of Police officers responded to an apartment complex on Henrico Arms Place on Oct. 3, 2023, for a report of a fight.

When the officers got to the scene, a woman who was not involved in the fight told them that she had been assaulted by 39-year-old Jamie Louis Cook. When the officers tried to detain Cook, he ran away from them while dropping a 9mm pistol he had in his waistband.

Cook eventually stopped running and was arrested by the officers, who found the gun he dropped. The gun was determined to have been stolen in November 2021.

Cook, who has several previous felony convictions including robbery, was charged with possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.
