Grand opening ceremony held for pro-casino campaign office in Petersburg

PETERSBURG, Va. (WRIC) — A campaign office in support of the proposed Live! Casino Resort in Petersburg officially opened on Thursday during a grand opening ceremony.

On Thursday, Aug. 15, Bruce Smith Enterprise and The Cordish Companies hosted a ceremonial grand opening for the ‘Vote Yes! Live! Casino Resort’ Petersburg campaign office located on 2 N. Sycamore St. in Petersburg.

According to a press release, the office will be open Mondays through Saturdays for the community to visit and learn more about the benefits that the Live! Casino Resort will bring to city residents.

In July, it was announced that the proposed $1.4 billion Live! Casino Resort will appear on November’s General Election ballots for the chance for city residents to decide on Nov. 5 if it will be approved.

If approved by voters, within in its first 10 years, the Live! Casino Resort is projected to generate the following:

• $2.8 billion in economic stimulus to the Region
• $504 million in tax revenues including $240 million to the City of Petersburg alone
• $802 million in economic benefits during construction
• $201 million in annual economic benefits each year after opening
• Over 7,500 new construction and permanent jobs

Upon its potential completion, the project is said to feature 1,600 state-of-the-art slot machines, an upscale 200-room hotel featuring 20 suites, a resort pool and fitness center, eight best-in-class food and entertainment options and more.
