Ashland Elementary School opens in Hanover with ribbon-cutting ceremony

HANOVER COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) — A ribbon-cutting ceremony on Thursday, Aug. 15 marked the opening of Ashland Elementary School in Hanover County.

Ashland Elementary School will welcome students from Henry Clay Elementary School and John M. Gandy Elementary School for the first official day of school next Monday, Aug. 19. Ashland Elementary is Hanover’s first new school since Laurel Meadow Elementary School opened in 2008.

“This state-of-the art facility represents more than just bricks and mortar; it embodies our commitment to providing Ashland students with the best possible environment for their learning and growth,” said Dr. Lisa Pennycuff, Hanover County Public Schools’ Interim Superintendent. “With spacious and bright classrooms that were designed to foster innovation, collaborative space to facilitate unity and recognition of the rich histories of both Henry Clay and John M. Gandy elementary schools, Ashland Elementary School is a school that will be a beacon in the community it serves.”

Several other school construction projects are still ongoing in Hanover to address the growing number of students in the county, including new buildings for Battlefield Park Elementary School, Beaverdam Elementary School and Washington-Henry Elementary School.
