    Why are flags at half-staff in Virginia?

    RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) — Governor Glenn Youngkin has ordered all United States and Virginia flags to be flown at half-staff on Friday, Aug. 16.

    According to Youngkin’s Office, the flag order is in memory and respect to former First Lady of Virginia Roxane Gatling Gilmore, who died on Wednesday, Aug. 7 .

    All Virginia and United States flags outside of state and local buildings across Virginia will be flown at half-staff from sunrise until sunset on Friday, Aug. 16.
