Two dogs dead after apartment fire in Chesterfield

CHESTERFIELD COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) — Two dogs are dead after an apartment fire in Chesterfield County — but no humans were harmed in the incident.

According to Chesterfield County Fire and EMS, units were sent to the 6100 block of Kim Court at around 11:27 a.m. on Friday, Aug. 16 for a report of an apartment fire. While they were on their way to the scene, the units were informed that it was reported that people were trapped inside the building.

When the units arrived at the scene around 11:32 p.m., the found that no one was trapped inside the building. The units went inside and found the fire in an apartment on the third floor and extinguished it. The fire damage was contained to the one apartment but smoke and water damaged several other apartments in the building.

Two dogs died in the fire, but no humans were harmed. Ten of the 12 apartments in the building were occupied at the time of the fire, those residents are being assisted by the apartment’s management, according to Chesterfield Fire.

Later in the day, Chesterfield Fire & EMS provided an update on Facebook regarding the extent of the damage. Five apartment units were damaged by smoke or water. A total of 17 people were displaced.

Chesterfield Fire was assisted by units from the Richmond Fire Department, who were dispatched at the same time.
