Clear bag policy updated at Hanover County Public Schools

HANOVER COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) — Hanover County Public Schools has issued an update to its clear bag policy at high school stadiums and gyms, as well as its size requirement for bags.

According to Hanover County Public Schools , the clear bag policy at its high school stadiums and gyms has been updated to only be in place for high school football for the fall sports season and high school basketball for the winter sports season as part of a “soft rollout.”

“It is not in place for other events,” the school district said in its statement on Facebook . “We have also removed the size requirement for the clear bag.”

According to the updated policy, clear backpacks have been added as an approved bag and the size requirement for clear bags has been removed. However, a small clutch purse for privacy can be no larger than 5 inches by 7 inches.

The change comes after the Hanover County School Board convened on Tuesday, Aug. 13 to discuss the district’s clear bag policy for high school stadiums and gyms which went into effect on Aug. 1 .

According to Hanover County Public Schools, the clear bag procedure only applies to spectators of the event, not students and staff participating in the event.

The update also says that it has clarified that bringing chairs is allowed and it has eliminated the food restrictions identified in the previous procedure.
