‘This is your sign!’: RACC at capacity, doing no-fee adoption this weekend

RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) — Richmond Animal Care and Control (RACC), which is currently full of dogs in need of homes, says “this is your sign” if you have thought about adopting a pet.

With over 60 dogs in their care right now, they’re in need of adopters or foster homes and have a great deal this weekend. RACC outreach coordinator Robin Young said she believes the lull in adoptions has to do with summertime and people going out of town more.

RACC, located at 1600 Chamberlayne Avenue, has been full all summer. To try and alleviate that, they have an no-fee adoption special this weekend.

“That includes [the cost of] spay or neuter, they’re microchipped and they’re up to date on vaccines,” Young said. “We definitely have some cuties here.”

Young says there’s been an increase of strays coming in and Richmond residents have been giving their dogs up to the shelter. Young also said Richmond Police officers have also been doing a “great job of investigating cruelty and neglect.”

“We’re hoping with an adoption special this weekend [and] summer starting to wind down, that people are ready to adopt,” she said.

RACC also has cats, and if you’re looking to provide a furry friend a temporary home, fostering is an option as well.

“These guys just came back from a foster home,” Young said while pointing to a pair of kitten brothers. “We have some amazing foster homes that enable us to have space here in the shelter.”

RACC has just under a hundred cats in foster care right now. RACC will be open Saturday from noon to 5:00 p.m. and Sunday from noon to 4:00 p.m.
