    Severe thunderstorm warning issued for many Central Virginia localities

    UPDATE: All severe thunderstorm warnings have expired.

    RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) — A severe thunderstorm warning has been issued for several Central Virginia counties on Monday.

    On Monday, Aug. 19, the National Weather Service said the following Central Virginia localities are under a severe thunderstorm warning until 6 p.m.:

    • King and Queen County
    • Middlesex County
    • Charles City County
    • New Kent County
    • King William County
    • Essex County
    • Lancaster County
    Flash Flood Warning in effect in Richmond, Henrico, Chesterfield

    The following localities are under a severe thunderstorm warning until 6:15 p.m.:

    • Prince George County
    • Sussex County
    • Dinwiddie County

    The following localities are under a severe thunderstorm warning until 6:30 p.m.:

    • Greensville County
    • City of Emporia
    • Brunswick County

    A severe thunderstorm warning means that a severe storm or storms have been spotted in or near the impacted areas. The NWS recommends moving to an interior room on the lowest floor of the building you’re in.
