RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) — Virginia Governor Glenn Youngkin has ordered all U.S. and Virginia flags in front of the Commonwealth’s state and local buildings to be flown at half-staff on Wednesday.

According to Youngkin’s Office, the flag order is in observance of Fentanyl Awareness Day, which takes place Wednesday, Aug. 21.

“We remember those we have lost and families forever changed due to fentanyl poisoning, acknowledge the devastation of this drug on communities, and recognize those who have dedicated their lives to spread awareness, education and prevention of fentanyl overdoses across the Commonwealth and the Nation,” said Youngkin’s office in a release.

Flags will be lowered to half-staff at sunrise on Wednesday and remain there until sunset.
