RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) — Planning on traveling for Labor Day weekend? The Virginia Department of Transportation has planned to lift lane closures to ease traveling on the holiday weekend.

In efforts to help travelers have a smooth ride during Labor Day weekend, VDOT will be suspending many lane closures on interstates and major roads in Virginia beginning at noon on Friday, Aug. 30 until Tuesday, Sept. 3.

While most lane closures may be lifted, VDOT still recommends drivers to check the Travel Advisories for the latest travel updates in the area.

In addition, the travel trends map will show drivers anticipated peak periods of congestion on Virginia interstates during the approaching Labor Day weekend.
