    Man stabbed, suspect injured on VCU campus in Richmond after fight at GRTC Pulse station

    RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) — A man was stabbed and his suspected attacker was hurt on Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU) campus in Richmond after a reported fight at a Greater Richmond Transit Authority (GRTC) Pulse Bus Station Thursday afternoon.

    VCU Police first sent out an alert at 3:29 p.m. on Thursday, Aug. 22, saying that an armed subject was last seen in the 1100 block of West Broad Street. People were asked to avoid the area.

    According to an updated alert issued at 4:07 p.m., the initial call was received by both VCU Police and the Richmond Police Department at 3:19 p.m., with officers responding to multiple reports of a fight in progress at the GRTC Pulse Bus Station in the 1000 block of West Broad Street.

    A witness reported that a person had been stabbed during the fight, but they had left the area, according to VCU Police.

    The Richmond Police Department told 8News that a man was later found by officers with a stab wound. He was taken to a local hospital with injuries not considered life-threatening.

    According to VCU Police, the suspect in the stabbing is described as a man with black hair in his early 20s. He was wearing a black shirt, black pants and black and white shoes. The Richmond Police Department told 8News that he was also injured in the fight, but could not confirm that he was stabbed.

    At 4:29 p.m., VCU Police reported that the situation was “resolved” and people could resume normal activity in the area. The Richmond Police Department told 8News at 5:41 p.m. that it could not confirm that the suspect was in custody.

    The Richmond Police Department is leading an ongoing investigation into this incident. Patrols have been increased in the area.

    No other information is available as of the time of reporting.

    This incident comes less than 24 hours after a man was stabbed in the chest in the 100 block of West Broad Street Wednesday night.

    Our Police and VCU police must do everything they can, to protect these students, 24 hours a day. They come to our city to educate themselves, not to be a victim of crime !!! All of our college campuses need constant police surveillance.
