FAIRFAX COUNTY, Va. ( DC News Now ) — Police said they arrested a woman who used tape to restrain children in her at-home day care in Bailey’s Crossroads.

The Fairfax County Police Department (FCPD) said officers went to the business, located in the 3600 block of Paul St. on Aug. 1 after they received a report about an assault.

Child abuse detectives said they determined that Sumy Shah, 47, of Alexandria restrained two children with tape at the county-licensed business on a number of occasions.

The Fairfax County website shows that Shah’s day care offers service to children who are 3 months old to 13 years old. The business operates Monday through Friday from 6:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m.

FCPD said Shah, who faces charges of Misdemeanor Assault and Contributing to the Delinquency of a Minor, turned herself in on Aug. 20. She was held on an unsecured bond before her release.

Detectives encouraged any potential witnesses or families who experienced similar encounters to those described to call the Fairfax County Police Department’s Major Crimes Bureau at 703-246-7800, Option 3.
