    Richmond Police to close several streets in Shockoe Bottom as part of safety efforts

    RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) — The Richmond Police Department will be closing several streets in Shockoe Bottom on Friday and Saturday nights as part of a safety effort.

    According to the Richmond Police Department , due to areas in Shockoe Bottom becoming busy on weekends, the department will further safety efforts by closing the following streets to vehicle traffic starting at 9 p.m. on Friday and Saturday nights:

    • N. 18th St. between E. Broad and E. Main streets
    • E. Franklin St. between N. 17th and N. 19th streets
    • E. Grace St. between N. 17th and N. 19th streets

    According to officials, officers and members of department leadership will be in the area to assist with public safety, including making arrests if necessary for firearm violations.

    Last weekend, 11 firearms were seized and arrests were made, according to the department.
