    Truck driver killed in crash in Essex County

    ESSEX COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) — A 61-year-old Essex County man is dead after police say he crashed his pickup truck into a tractor-trailer on Tidewater Trail early Wednesday morning.

    According to Virginia State Police, the crash took place at around 4:40 a.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 28 at the intersection of Supply Road and Tidewater Trail.

    It was determined that 61-year-old Danny William Holmes of Essex County was driving a 2018 Chevrolet pickup truck when he ran a stop sign and struck a tractor-trailer heading south on Tidewater Trail.

    Holmes was pronounced dead at the scene and the driver of the tractor-trailer sustained a non-life-threatening injury.

    This crash is still under investigation by state police.
