CAROLINE COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) — Virginia State Police is looking for additional victims as it investigates a suspected vehicle theft ring in central and northern Virginia.

According to police, troopers were called to a home in Caroline County for a report of a stolen vehicle on Dec. 8, 2023.

A tow truck had showed up to the home for what was thought to be a lawful repossession of a vehicle, but police determined that the owner had been making regular payments and the seller had not forwarded the appropriate documents, instead having it repossessed.

Police later arrested 32-year-old Brandon E. Morton of Stafford County and charged him with felony racketeering involving suspected sale and fraudulent repossession of vehicles. He is being held at Rappahannock Regional Jail in Stafford.

Police believe Morton has used multiple aliases and may have operated several car dealerships under various names. Police also believe there could be more victims in Caroline, as well as the Fredericksburg area and northern Virginia.

Anyone with information related to Morton or who believes they may have been a victim of him is asked to call Virginia State Police Division One at 804-750-8758.
