SHENANDOAH COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) — Skyline Drive , the 105-mile scenic cruise along the Blue Ridge Mountains in Shenandoah National Park, was rated the 5th best “make-out” spot in America, according to a survey by DatingNews.com.

“The make-out spot is a time-honored part of dating culture, immortalized in film, song, and story,” said Jon McCallister with DatingNews.com. “From Danny and Sandy’s not-so-happy make-out session at the drive-in, to Jack and Rose’s passionate rendezvous in the cargo hold, we’ve been looking for paradise by the dashboard light for decades.”

This nationwide survey asked thousands of Americans to identify their favorite secluded, scenic places for getting romantic with a special someone. From those answers, DatingNews.com created a top-150 list.

Virginia haunts appear three times on the list — and one of them managed to land itself in the top 5.

Skyline Drive is a three-hour drive — “depending on weather conditions and how often you stop to pucker up,” McCallister notes — that winds through the national park along the breathtaking Blue Ridge Mountains. Its 35 mph speed limit allows drivers to take in the sights at a more relaxed pace.

It’s no wonder Skyline Drive snagged 5th place — not only are the mountains gorgeous on their own, but the park itself is packed with sprawling forests that are teeming with local wildlife.

Both of the other highlighted Virginia spots made the top 50.

The 29th-best pick, Lover’s Leap Scenic Overlook in Patrick County, can be found in the highlands of the Blue Ridge Mountains — and it actually has a romantic legend associated with it. According to the Virginia Tourism Corporation, two star-crossed lovers took their lives here so they could be together forever, giving this scenic spot its name.

The historic Colonial Parkway in Williamsburg came in at No. 42. Connecting Jamestown, Williamsburg and Yorktown, DatingNews.com describes this drive is the best of both worlds, offering both “historical charm” and gorgeous natural scenery in spades.
