POWHATAN COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) — Want to know more about foraging? Central Virginia residents can learn about the bounty that the Piedmont region’s forest offers in the summer along a short walk at Powhatan State Park on Saturday.

From 1 to 2 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 7, visitors will be taught about fruits and other edibles that the forest has to offer during a walk spanning less than a mile.

The group will meet at the Launch A parking area, and then will walk while looking for ripe pawpaws, spicebush berries and other edibles.

Attendees are asked to bring water and wear comfortable hiking shoes. The walk will be on a mostly flat trail, according to organizers.

No registration fee is required, though visitors must pay the standard admission fee at the park’s gate.
