    Cardinal Elementary School reopens after lightening strike prompts week-long repair

    RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) — Cardinal Elementary School doors are now open to students and their families after a week-long close due to repairs.

    Last Monday, Aug. 26, lightning stuck the roof of the school’s building resulting in a small fire with significant water damage to the second and first floors of the building to follow.

    Fifteen Richmond Fire Department units along with more than 60 personnel assisted in the response. The school division’s operation’s team and construction partners then took over with repairs according to Superintendent Jason Kamras who took to X Sunday to post of the roof’s new repair .

    The Richmond Public Schools Education Foundation created the ‘Cardinal Strong Fund’ to provide assistance to students, families along with teachers during the aftermath of the incident.

    The fund has gained nearly 80 supporters at last check Tuesday morning.
