Family displaced after basement fire tears through Chesterfield home while they’re away

CHESTERFIELD COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) — A family has been displaced after a basement fire spread through their Chesterfield County home Wednesday evening while they were out of town.

Just after 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 4, crews with Chesterfield Fire & EMS responded to the 3700 block of Luton Court for report of a house fire.

When they arrived, firefighters found visible smoke pouring from the roof of the house. According to fire officials, a fire that began in the basement of the home had spread to its first floor.

Firefighters were able to put out the flames in less than an hour. No one was injured in the fire, as no one was home when it began.

Fire officials told 8News that the residents are currently out of town. They will be displaced upon their return due to the damage the fire caused to their home. At this time, it is not known exactly how many people will be without a home.
