HANOVER COUNTY, Va. — Some schools across Central Virginia will see an increased presence of law enforcement in the coming days after a deadly school shooting in Winder, Georgia.

The Hanover County Sheriff’s Office took to Facebook in the afternoon on Wednesday, Sept. 4 to make the community aware of the increased in police presence all school across the county in the coming days.

The office noted that this is a proactive measure out of an abundance of caution and that there is no active threat to the community.

My heart breaks at the news of the school shooting in Georgia. I’ve got nothing insightful left to say on this topic. It just needs to stop. RPS families, please note that I’ve asked RPD for an increased presence at our high schools tomorrow out of an abundance of caution.
